We’re almost done with the Challenge! Congratulations for working so hard on this over the last month!
Today’s ACTION Step: Evaluate + Adjust!
“When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.”
Sometimes, even with great plans, things don’t work out the way we want them to. We don’t land the big client we really wanted to work with. We run out of time and don’t get things finished to our liking. We have other life events pop up and have to change our expectations. All of these things happen, and we have to learn to take a step back, evaluate the new situation we’ve found ourselves in, and adjust our plans.
I have a coach who works with me to navigate this new world of entrepreneurship, and I work on this concept all the time. ALL THE TIME. Like, every. single. day.
I have learned over the past ten years that planning is a great tool and good strategies help us to plan—but we have to be ready to adjust those plans if necessary.
So, as you go into the next phase of your content strategy, which is the part where you take action and actually begin to create and produce and share your content with the world, be ready to adjust.
Build time into your schedule to evaluate what you’re doing. You might want to do this every week as you get started, and then as you get comfortable and into a routine back it down to once or twice a month.
Be flexible. It’s okay to change your plans. It’s okay to adjust based on your results, changes in your schedule, or based on new things that you learn that make you want to change things up. IT IS OKAY TO CHANGE YOUR PLAN! 🙂
Here’s what you don’t do. You don’t give up. You don’t keep doing the same thing that’s NOT working just because that was your original plan. And you don’t refuse to ask for help if you realize you need it.
How do I know this?
Because I’ve been there. I’m just as stubborn as you are! I have learned through trial and error, and constant re-evaluation and adjustment.
That’s why I know a plan and a strategy is invaluable. Because, when you get down to it, if you DO decide you need to pivot and adjust your plan you at least have the framework in place. It’s much easier to fix a problem when you have a structure in place to work from. It’s much easier to figure out you have a problem in the first place when you have a plan, and you suddenly realize the plan isn’t working!
Evaluating and adjusting a plan is MUCH easier than throwing everything out and starting all over!
Today, make sure that you write a note somewhere on your planning pages, your calendar, or your 2018 Content Strategy Planner that says:
“It’s okay to change the plan. Evaluate what’s working and adjust!”
