“An organization’s ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage.”
Welcome back! It’s been a busy second week of the month, and I know we all have a lot going on. Thanks for coming with me on this challenge. I’d love to hear how things are going for you—let me know on Facebook!
Today’s ACTION Step is: Study Time.
One of the keys to producing useful content for your tribe is to keep learning. You need to stay on top of the changes and breakthroughs in your field. Whether it’s design, education, engineering, or any other field it’s important for you to keep studying and learning throughout your career. This will not only keep you up to date, but you’ll more easily figure out the best ways to communicate relevant content for your users.
The best way that I know to do this is to reserve regular time in your schedule and budget for learning. Pick several avenues that you can pursue: read articles and white papers produced by leaders in your field. Take classes online, or at a local college. Join an online community for people with the skills you want to hone and develop. Schedule in a conference or two to attend this year. Don’t forget the library! Reading books about your specialization is a great way to stay informed, and it lets you get deep into the subject matter.
Set up a learning schedule for yourself today. I recommend that you reserve at least 2 hours a week that you can set aside to focus solely on growing your knowledge. Make sure that you evaluate your budget, too. You want to be able to afford the resources that you choose.
Finally, take a moment to commit to taking action on the things you learn. Gathering knowledge is only useful if you apply that knowledge in some way. So, get serious about sharing what you learn in the content that you develop for your company! Your clients will appreciate it, and you’ll benefit from becoming a reliable source of knowledge.
That’s it! Have an awesome day!
